What once started off as a student voted project in 2014, has now turned into the new hotspot for University of Stevens Point students and the Stevens Point community. The new Health and Wellness center opened Aug, 18, 2025.

When the original plan was voted on in 2014, the space was intended for fitness and recreation, but now it’s more health and wellness based. The Wellness area provides turf, deadlifting platforms, squat racks, Smith machines, wellness rooms, etc.

The wellness center also provides weekly Group Ex programs. Throughout the week Group X hosts fitness classes such as Dance Fusion, yoga, Aquafit, Pilates, Core & Stretch, Full Body Sculpt, Arms & Abs, Cycling, and Glutes and Abs.

All the classes are student led, encouraging students to branch outside of their comfort zone and try something new.

Alongside the Wellness center, stands at the counseling center, the center provides in person and online therapy sessions with no additional cost for students who attend UWSP in person. For students who attend online and reside in Wisconsin, teletherapy is an option.

Prior to the new building, faculty members of the health and counseling center were located in Delzell Hall.

Stacey Gerken

Licensed Phycologist Stacey Gerken said, “To find us, you had to be more intentional, but here it’s easier,”

When Gerken was asked if she felt more comfortable in this new environment, she said, “In many ways, yes.”

The Health Center offers free flu shots every fall to any enrolled UWSP student.

Hellen Luce

Hellen Luce, a primary doctor in the center said, “Every student can come in and get a flu shot to benefit them and the community.”

The center also offers general checkups, sexually transmitted infection treatment, minor injuries treatment, contraception care, travel health consults, mental health diagnosis, and prescribed medications.

UWSP students are welcome to make appointments via phone call or online through the scheduling portal that is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

In the wellness space, roughly 80 to 90% of the equipment is brand new. They had to expand the amount of equipment due to high demands. The Wellness center has turf and Smith machines, two pieces that were not available at the Allen Quad

The health and counseling services are only open to students, but the wellness center is open to students and the community.

Multiple different memberships are open to the public, ranging from semester to semester passes, summer and winter passes, and day passes.

Current students are welcome to the center but must be enrolled in at least six credits to be eligible for free membership.

During winter and summer breaks if UWSP students are living in the dorms or off campus, the center is still available to use.

The wellness centers offer faculty memberships, MSTC memberships, Alum memberships, and community memberships.
