Ouachita Behavioral Health & Wellness has a new psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, the mental health center announced Monday.
Don Case has joined OBHAW and “will provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment for children, adolescents, and adults across OBHAW’s five-county service area,” a news release said.
“Access to timely mental health services is critical, and one way we can reduce barriers is by offering appointments outside of traditional business hours,” Case said in the release.
Case will be at OBHAW’s Hot Springs location, 125 Wellness Way, four days a week, starting at 7:30 a.m. He will offer in-person services, including psychiatric diagnostic assessments and medication management, Monday through Wednesday until 5:30 p.m. and on Thursdays until 4:30 p.m., the release said.
He said he hopes that having hours outside the traditional workday “will make it easier for working adults and for children who need care without missing school or work. My focus will be on providing practical, compassionate treatment that helps patients manage symptoms and improve daily life,” he said in the release.
A board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Case has worked at inpatient and outpatient facilities and at correctional facilities, the release said.
“His experience includes positions at Coyote Ridge Correctional Center and Washington Corrections Center in Washington, Dilkon Medical Center on the Navajo Nation, Pawnee Mental Health in Kansas, and Natchaug Hospital in Connecticut,” the release said, noting his patients have included those with conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, ADHD and personality disorders.
“The demand for psychiatric providers in Central Arkansas continues to rise, and many clients struggle to fit appointments into their work or school schedules,” Susan Smith, OBHAW’s CEO, said in the release.
“Don’s willingness to see clients in the evenings or early morning expands access in a very meaningful way. His background and flexibility will be a tremendous benefit to the families and individuals who rely on OBHAW,” she said.
OBHAW also offers a walk-in clinic from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with no appointment needed.
